SORRY LOYAL READERS! Where did those three weeks go?
Mattie and I are having an amazing time up in and around the mountains. Exploring, swimming, climbing, eating, beers, the most wonderful surprise from my students (mail at the Latte Da!?) that brought tears to my eyes, fun with family and friends, relaxating, treasures in the sagebrush, a great-horned owl, Bodie is awesome, back to the Lee Vining Creek home and the Sierra family (including the elusive Heather)...it goes on and on and on.
We've had somewhat of a home base up near Tahoe/Reno for the past couple of weeks, which has been nice, with intermittent trips for climbing, adventuring and spacing out in the mountains. Yeti and Dad came up to Scott's for a week earlier this month which was AWESOME. Discovery Museum, swimming in the pool and lakes, BBQs, ridiculous thunder and hail storms that created flash floods. Etcetera. I love them all so much, and it's been a great summer with more family time than usual.
Last week Greg and I headed down to Lee Vining again to camp at the creek home for a while. We found incredible trinkets and treasures. We had a great visit (breakfast and dinner!) with John and Mary, the Sierra saviors who also watched Mattie while we took a trip to Bodie for the afternoon. THANK YOU!!! We swam in Lundy Lake (it's colder now after those storms, but still amazing). We finally got some Mono Bars and relaxed at the Mobil. Greg found something embedded in a piece of pumice that may or may not have been a bomb. It was a perfect few days.
Just about a month left of summer before heading back to school. The stats website is progressing along with all of my coursework, readers, etc. -- it sounds like work, but doesn't feel like it up here. And my students keep surprising me with their ideas, questions, thoughtfulness and overall awesomeness. I feel lucky about it every day.
For the next few days, Mattie and I are back in Reno/Tahoe. Today we climbed at Shadow Boulder (one of my favorites) in Truckee. I sent a problem that had been bugging me (yay!) and made progress on another crimpy little jerk. We've been working out at the bouldering gym almost every day, so maybe that helped?
Things are just beautiful this summer. So much family time. Beautiful places. Great climbing days, swimming holes, summer storms, pine trees and granite.
But get ready for the switch...we're Hawaii bound on Monday!!!

Allison and Mattie the SWIMMING DOG (SERIOUSLY YOU GUYS, SHE ACTUALLY SWIMS NOW...but not a lot...and with quite a bit of encouragement...and physical wrangling -- but she does great and is getting more and more on board with the idea each time!)
