It's finally spring in Aspendell, and we've been enjoying the warming weather and growing things.
The aspens are full with giant quaking leaves, and even our little brave front yard plants are (mostly) alive and thriving. A few winter casualties - sorry lavender, a russian sage - but for the most part they've recovered from a big snow year and are happily returning. I yell at them "grow, groooooow" like they're little Frankensteins every morning. Greg is sure that it helps.
We've otherwise been busy with Women's World Cup, fishing, art, adventure, and the Fish-Off at Convict Lake last weekend. Today, Scott & Laura and kids, and Yet & Dad, are coming to Aspendell for a post-family-reunion family reunion. The creeks are all raging with melting run-off, which makes fishing harder and the entire Owens Valley brighter with wildflowers and green.
Teddy loves the cabin and makes himself right at home curled up on the leather chairs, or the couch, or the bed. He's quickly learned the words "squirrel," "chipmunk," "deer," and "yoder" (coyote), so we have to be careful when describing the wildlife - otherwise he's flying from window to window looking for creatures.
Wrenly has moved into our Game of Thrones themed bird house, and we hope to start hearing the sounds of little wrenlies soon. The Clark's Nutcrackers still dominate the bird feeders, but we've also been seeing a million flickers, grosbeaks, finches, juncos, towhees, and scrub jays. The deer have been slowly making their way back up to higher elevation, but a few lingerers have stayed in Aspendell to harass Teddy and set off our dog alarm at 5:00am.
The miller moths are officially back in town. We'll see how bad the 2019 infestation is.
It's beautiful and warm, and soon the trails will be snow-free and ready for our stomping.
I had a dream about Mattie last night. It's such a gift to hug that scruffy girl again, but I always wish we had a little longer to hang out. I just miss my little summer shadow so much.
Love Allison
