7/4 - 4th of July at Lake George

Happy 4th of July!

We decided to take another day at Lake George, expecting that most campgrounds in the area will be pretty packed, and we didn't feel like moving anyway. But then we got a note on our bear box letting us know that we owed an extra $2 for our site because it's a "premium holiday." Thieves.

I did a little painting from the Lake George dock at sundown. This picture is horrible and the colors are off and it's dull compared to the actual painting. I'll try to get a better one and repost. But it was a fun one to paint, and I'm happy with it, and actually I think it looks pretty awesome in real-life.

**UPDATE: This painting has been traded for several nights at a beautiful home in Mono City.
We had a little fire, read for an hour or so, and went to sleep under a beautiful starry sky with no wind and quiet neighbors. This morning we woke up early and had a quick oatmeal breakfast before heading out for a short walk around the lake.

Gourmet breakfast at camp. The oatmeal reminds me of Sara.

Mattie "Muddy Paws" Mae leads the way around the lake.

Our buddy Bear made his way back to camp today. It seems like he probably just does rounds of the Mammoth Lakes every day. You can track his trek around the lake by the screams and shouts of angry/scared fishermen as he rambles along the shore trail.

A better picture of Mr. Bear, looking for some fish to steal.
This afternoon we headed into town, and down Old Mammoth Road, where our friend Elin let us take a shower at her place while she was working (thanks Elin, Nathan and Lupin!). Now, we're back in Mammoth Village for a few minutes before heading back up into the hills. The sky isn't great for painting, so we might head over to Geophysics Wall for some easy bouldering. Back at camp, the rain-fly is on, the truck is sealed with duct-tape, and we're waiting to get a beautiful Sierra storm before long.

Everything is amazing.

Love,
Allison and Mattie Mae
