8/15 - Reno/Markleeville Round 2

Hi everybody!

Mattie and I had a great week in Reno, followed by three amazing days back at the Kaffer cabin near Markleeville.

First, some good days in Reno at Scott, Tiff, Sid and Anni's house. Grandma and Grandpa stopped by on their way to the Shakespeare festival in Ashland, so we had a good afternoon at the Truckee.

Then we headed south, where we picked peaches and apples with Uncle Dan and Selena.

That afternoon, we went west from Markleeville to the cabin for three great days of fishing, walking, spacing out, cabin painting, games, beers and brandy, rainstorms, and a great sight-seeing drive with Uncle Dan to the edge of Pleasant Valley and up towards Poor Boy Mine. We walked around a great dry pond and meadow (Uncle Dan has named it "Allie's Meadow") and looked for flakes (didn't find any), before a good dinner and a night under the stars.

We did some fishing at the East Fork of the Carson River, caught (and mostly released) some serious Cuttbows (probably...or maybe Eagle Lake rainbows cross with Steelhead - Uncle Dan is helping me as I write this).

The next morning we all took a walk through the meadows near Grover Hot Springs, stopped at a creek, found a natural see-saw between some trees, and relaxed until the afternoon.

 We had a great time at the cabin - thank you again to Aunt Dianne & Uncle Dan for letting us stay up there for an amazing three days!

Now, Mattie and I are in Minden waiting to see how the truck is doing (some issues with the clutch have us waiting for word from the mechanic). Luckily, we're happy to be staying with the Kaffers while we wait - doing some reading, gallery-visiting, shark-week watching, delicious-food making (then eating), and getting good news about an article that was just accepted! Looks like we'll be around here for at least a couple more days while the truck gets diagnosed, then healed. It's beautiful, there are great storms, and it's a wonderful way to spend a few days before heading back towards Mono/Mammoth.
